Print Mottle Part 1 Article Published in The THAIPRINT MAGAZINE ISSUE 149

The Thai Printing Association has published our in-depth study on Print Mottle, a significant quality issue in the printing industry. Print Mottle refers to the uneven distribution or variation in color density on the surface of printed paper, which can significantly affect print quality. This issue is easily noticeable to the naked eye, especially in solid tone areas, and occurs across various printing methods, including offset lithography, flexography, and inkjet printing. However, visually assessing the severity of Print Mottle has several limitations. As a result, ongoing research has focused on developing scientific methods and advanced equipment to accurately measure and analyze this defect in a way that aligns with human visual perception.

A review of past studies shows that Print Mottle measurement has been an area of continuous research and development. Several approaches have been explored, including Standard Method, Bandpass Image Analysis, Modified Coefficient of Variation, and Integration Model, among others.
